Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Lundgren grew up in a single-parent household, where braces were an expense her family couldn’t afford. She struggled with low self-esteem because of her smile—her canines grew in ectopic, giving her teeth an unusual appearance that she felt self-conscious about.

One of her friend’s parents, who worked at a dental office, connected her with an orthodontist who eventually helped her get braces. When her treatment was complete, she felt like a completely different person. For the first time, she could smile confidently—though she had to teach herself how to smile naturally after years of hiding her teeth. This transformative experience inspired her to become a dentist, driven by a passion to help others feel proud of their smiles.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Dr. Lundgren went on to attend the prestigious Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Following her formal education, she practiced as an associate dentist for eight years and then spent three years in Germany training with prosthodontists, becoming more adept with lab work, dental crowns, veneers, and more.

Today, she has certifications to provide both Botox and dermal fillers, and she has taken several courses focused on advanced technology, including iTero scanners, CEREC (for one-visit dental crowns), and CBCT 3D imaging. She is one of the very few general dentists in the Wilmington area who can complete root canal treatment and place a custom crown in a single appointment.

Still learning and striving to improve, Dr. Lundgren is very active in professional dental organizations and is currently a member of the:

  • American Dental Association
  • Nash Institute for Dental Learning
  • American Academy of Clear Aligners
  • American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • North Carolina Dental Society
  • Cape Fear Dental Study Club
